Procedure Details:

What Do Metal Braces Do?

Metal braces are a series of brackets and wires attached to your teeth that work to straighten your smile. They are used to correct many different types of dental problems, including:

Crooked teeth

Gapped teeth

Crowded teeth

Overbite

Underbite

The Metal Braces Process

The process of getting metal braces is relatively simple. First, you will need to schedule a consultation with our experienced orthodontist. During your consultation, the doctor will examine your teeth and discuss your treatment options with you. If metal braces are right for you, he will then take impressions of your teeth and send them to the lab. The lab will then create your custom metal braces.

Once your braces are ready, you will come back to our office to have them placed. The doctor will attach the brackets to your teeth with cement and then thread the wire through the brackets. He will then adjust the wire to ensure that your teeth are properly aligned. You will need to come back to our office every 4-6 weeks for adjustments.

Do Metal Braces Hurt?

Metal braces usually do not hurt. You may feel some discomfort when they are first placed on your teeth, but this should go away within a few days. If it does not, it's important to contact our office so that we can adjust your braces. If you are simply experiencing some soreness after getting your braces on or after a tightening appointment, we advise you to take over-the-counter pain medication and place a cold pack on your face for 20 minutes at a time.
