Sinus Lift Procedures in Sterling, VA

Potomac, Ashburn Sinus Lift Specialist

If your upper teeth are missing, it’s likely that your sinuses have collapsed. This could mean that you won’t have enough bone to support dental implants. In this case, your dentist or oral surgeon may recommend a sinus lift. This is because the sinus lift procedure can recreate the bone and tissue needed to place dental implants in the upper jaw. Our seasoned team at WestLake Dental Care successfully performs sinus lifts for our patients and can answer all of your questions.

Procedure Details:

What Is a Sinus Lift?

A sinus lift is also known as a sinus augmentation. This is because the procedure involves adding bone to the sinuses. The sinuses are located above your upper teeth. They’re filled with air and help to reduce the weight of your skull. When you lose teeth, the sinuses can collapse. This can make it difficult to place dental implants in the upper jaw.

The sinus lift procedure is used to add bone to the upper jaw. This will provide support for dental implants. The sinus lift involves lifting up the lining of the sinus so that bone can be added. The new bone will support the dental implants.

The Sinus Lift Process

The sinus lift process usually takes place in a few stages:

First, the oral surgeon will make an incision in the gums. They will then lift up the gum tissue to expose the bone. Next, they will create a small opening in the bone. This will give them access to the sinuses.

Once they have access to the sinuses, they will gently lift up the sinus lining. They will then place bone graft material in the area. The bone graft material will help to support the dental implants. Finally, the oral surgeon will close the incisions with sutures.

The second stage of the procedure is typically performed 4-9 months after the first stage. This is because the bone needs time to heal. During the second stage, the oral surgeon will place the dental implants. Once the implants are in place, they will be left to fuse with the bone. After a few months, the dental implants will be ready to support a dental prosthetic. This could be a denture, bridge, or crown.

Does Insurance Cover a Sinus Lift?

Sinus lifts are considered medically necessary in some cases and, as such, may be covered by insurance. However, coverage will vary depending on your individual insurance plan. It’s important to check with your insurance provider to find out if they cover sinus lifts. If they do not, we would be more than happy to work with you and ensure that you are able to get the dental care you need.
