Procedure Details:

What Does Wisdom Teeth Removal Do?

Wisdom teeth removal helps to correct a number of dental problems. By removing wisdom teeth, we can:

Prevent crowding and misalignment of your teeth

Reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease

Eliminate pain and infections caused by impacted teeth

The Wisdom Tooth Removal Process

Wisdom teeth removal is typically an outpatient procedure. This means you can go home the same day as your surgery. The steps of this common procedure are outlined below so you can understand what to expect:

The first step is to meet with our team for a consultation. During this appointment, we will take X-rays of your mouth to assess the position of your wisdom teeth and determine if removal is necessary.

Once it is determined that wisdom teeth removal is the best course of action, we will schedule you for surgery.

On the day of your surgery, you will be given a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area. You may also be given a sedative to help you relax. Once you are comfortable, our oral surgeon will make small incisions in your gums to access your wisdom teeth. Your wisdom teeth will then be removed. The incisions in your gums will be closed with stitches. A gauze pad will be placed over the surgical site to help control bleeding.

You will be given post-operative instructions and can go home to rest once the anesthesia has worn off. It is important to eat soft foods and avoid chewing on the side of your mouth where the surgery was performed. You should also brush and floss gently around the surgical site. You will need to come back for a follow-up appointment so we can check your progress and remove your stitches (if necessary).

Does Wisdom Teeth Removal Hurt?

Wisdom teeth removal is a common procedure that is usually not painful. This is because you will be given a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area. You may also be given a sedative to help you relax. However, you may experience some discomfort and soreness after the procedure. Our team will provide you with pain medication to help manage any discomfort you may feel.
