What Do All-on-6 Dental Implants Do?

All-on-6 dental implants are designed to provide patients with a long-term solution for missing teeth. The implants are placed in the jawbone and fuse with the bone over time. This helps to provide support for the new teeth, which are then attached to the implants. All-on-6 dental implants look and feel just like natural teeth, which means they won’t slip or click like dentures can. They also allow you to eat and speak without worry.

The All-on-6 Dental Implants Process

The all-on-6 dental implants process is very similar to that of traditional dental implants, except that instead of singular dental implants, six are used. The process takes place over the span of several months and multiple appointments. The steps are outlined in detail below:

Consultation. The first step, and arguably one of the most important ones, is to determine whether or not you are a candidate for all-on-6 implants. An ideal candidate would be a non-smoker with decent oral health and adequate bone density in their jaw.

Implant placement. Once it has been decided that you are a good candidate for all-on-6 implants, the next step is to have the implants placed. This is done through a minimally invasive surgery in which six titanium posts are placed in the jawbone.

Osseointegration. The next step is osseointegration, or the process in which the implants fuse with the jawbone. This can take several months, during which you will be given temporary teeth.

Abutment placement. Once the implants have fused with the jawbone, your dentist will place abutments on the implants. These are small connectors that will eventually hold your new teeth in place.

Tooth placement. The final step is to have your new teeth placed on the abutments. This can be done through a variety of methods, such as dentures, bridges, or crowns.

How to Care For Your All-on-6 Dental Implants

Following the all-on-6 dental implants procedure, you will be given pain medication for any discomfort and antibiotics to prevent infection. It is important to take these as directed. You will also be given specific instructions on how to care for your all-on-6 implants long-term. Fortunately, caring for your all-on-6 dental implants is similar to caring for your natural teeth. You should brush and floss them twice a day and see your dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings. Additionally, it is important to avoid smoking and using tobacco products, as this can increase the risk of implant failure.
