Ask two offices what Invisalign costs and you can get two totals far apart, for what sounds like the same treatment. It is easy to read that gap as one office overcharging. The two quotes may instead describe different amounts of work, with different things counted inside the price.
Here is our own answer first. At Westlake Dental Care, a full Invisalign case is $4,700, and our in-house payment plan for it is $225 a month. Both are our current fees as of October 2026, and we confirm them at your exam.
Invisalign treatment cost follows a short list of drivers, and once you know them you can read any quote line by line, ours included.
What decides Invisalign treatment cost?
The manufacturer answers this plainly. Its own FAQ says the cost is set "based on how complex your case is and how many aligners you need" by your doctor. Both of those come from your teeth.
The aligner count comes from biology. A tooth sits in bone, held in its socket by a thin ligament. When an aligner presses on the tooth, bone breaks down on the side being pressed and new bone forms on the side being stretched. A 2018 review of how teeth move describes that sequence. It notes that the tooth moves only once the bone on the pressed side has been removed, not before.
Because bone rebuilds at its own pace, each aligner moves your teeth one small step and the next aligner takes the step after it. A case where teeth travel further, turn in place, or change how the upper and lower teeth meet needs more of those steps. More steps means more aligners, more months and more checkups, and that is the first reason two quotes differ.
Why does nobody publish one national price?
When we read Invisalign's own cost page on 30 September 2026, it gave no national range at all. It showed hypothetical examples and said that pricing "is independently determined by the doctor and may vary based on your case," with no average attached.
That is why this post gives no national figure, only our own fee. An average blends mild crowding with a full change to the bite, so it tells you very little about your own teeth. The number that matters is the one confirmed from your scan.
What should an Invisalign quote include?
Two quotes can also differ because they stop at different points. Start with the parts a quote should name:
- Records: the scan, photographs and X-rays the plan is built from. At Westlake the scan is digital, and we add a 3D X-ray when a case needs one.
- The aligners: the full series in the plan, not only the first few sets.
- Checkups: the visits where the dentist checks that your teeth are moving the way the plan says they should.
Then look for the parts that a quote can quietly leave out:
- Refinements: teeth do not always move exactly as the plan predicts, so a case can need extra aligners before it finishes. A 2024 study of Invisalign cases calls these refinements "very common." Ask whether they sit inside the price.
- Retainers: Invisalign's FAQ says pricing for its retainers "can be based on your individual needs." Ask whether yours are in the quote or billed later.
- Work beforehand: if you need a filling or gum treatment before the aligners start, ask whether it is in this quote or a separate one.
A lower total that leaves out refinements and retainers can end up being the higher one by the time treatment finishes.
What happens to the cost if the aligners stay out?
This is the part of the price that you control. The review above describes tooth movement as a response to sustained pressure. An aligner left out for long stretches can fall short of its step. The next aligner is made for where the plan says your teeth should be by then, not for where they are.
Invisalign's FAQ says each set of aligners is worn 20 to 22 hours a day, as your doctor directs. Wear them less and teeth fall behind, which can mean extra aligners before the case finishes. Our post on wearing Invisalign only at night walks through what happens in that case.
The same logic runs past the last aligner. The manufacturer notes that most doctors recommend a retainer after treatment to keep teeth from "gradually shifting back toward their initial position" over time. Moving teeth a second time is a second treatment, with its own quote.
How does insurance change what you pay?
Some dental plans include orthodontic benefits and some do not. Invisalign's cost page says a plan may pay for "a certain percentage" of treatment or for "a certain dollar amount" of it. Its FAQ adds that there is often a lifetime cap on what insurance pays for orthodontic treatment. The FAQ also notes that you can pay with an FSA or an HSA.
Before you count on your plan, ask it these three questions:
- Does it cover orthodontic treatment for adults, or only for children?
- Is there a lifetime limit for orthodontics, and how much of that limit is left?
- Does it pay once at the start, or in installments across the treatment?
Westlake Dental Care files insurance, and many of our guests pay out of pocket, so both are normal here. Our insurance page has the details. If you have no dental insurance, ask how our in-house savings plan, the Membership Club, applies to an Invisalign case.
How do we quote Invisalign at Westlake?
We quote an Invisalign case as one plan with one price, and there is no surprise billing partway through. Our current fee for a full case is $4,700, as of October 2026. We confirm it at your exam, once your scan is in, and you see it before you commit to anything. Ask us then what the price covers, using the list above.
If you would rather spread the cost, our in-house payment plan for Invisalign is $225 a month, with no lender involved. That is our current fee as of October 2026, and we confirm it at your exam too. We also work with outside lenders. Their rates and terms belong to them and can change without notice, so our financing options page links you to them.
For what the treatment itself involves, start with what Invisalign is and how it works. Our Invisalign page covers how we plan and quote a case here.
Book an appointment or call (703) 444-5108, and ask for an Invisalign quote written from your scan.
