How Much Do Veneers Cost? What Sets the Price per Tooth — Westlake Dental Care, Sterling VA

Search for veneers cost and you get a price per tooth, then a price for a "full set". Two dental offices can also quote the same smile very differently. That gap does not by itself mean one of them is overcharging. The two quotes may describe different materials, different numbers of teeth, and different amounts of work before the veneers go on.

At Westlake Dental Care, a porcelain veneer is $1,350 per tooth and a composite veneer is $650 per tooth. Those are our current fees as of October 2026, and your exam confirms the fee for each tooth. The rest of this post explains what moves the number, so you can read any veneer quote line by line.

What sets the cost of veneers per tooth?

Four things decide most of what a veneer plan costs, and a written quote should show you each of them.

The material

A porcelain veneer is a thin ceramic shell made by a dental laboratory. To make room for it, the dentist removes a thin layer of enamel from the front of the tooth. That lets the shell sit flush instead of making the tooth look bulky. The teeth are scanned, and you wear temporaries while the lab makes the shells.

A composite veneer is tooth-colored resin built straight onto the tooth in the chair and hardened with a light. There is no lab making shells and no set of temporaries to wear in between. Those steps are part of why porcelain costs more per tooth than composite.

How many teeth are in the design

A veneer has to match the teeth beside it in color, length and shape. A single veneer has to disappear among natural teeth that stay as they are, which is exacting work for one tooth. A set of six or eight sets its own standard across the smile. So the count changes the design work as well as the total.

What has to happen first

Veneers go on last. Whitening works on natural tooth structure. The American Dental Association notes that it will not work on veneers, so a veneer keeps the shade it was made in. If you want your other teeth lighter, we whiten first, let the color settle for about a week, then choose the veneer shade. Our post on whether crowns can be whitened explains the same limit for crowns.

Crowded teeth sometimes need aligners first, and gum problems need treatment first. Each of those is its own line on the plan.

Your bite

A veneer on a tooth that takes heavy force, or in a mouth that grinds at night, works against that force every day. When the bite needs attention, that work belongs in the plan, and if you grind, a night guard does too.

Why do porcelain and composite veneers cost so differently?

The two materials also last differently and ask different things of you along the way.

A 2021 systematic review pooled 25 clinical studies covering 6,500 porcelain veneers. It estimated that 95.5% were still in service at 10 years. Fracture was the most common problem, followed by veneers coming loose, and both happened most often in the first years. The review also names grinding as a possible risk for fracture. That is why a grinding habit or a heavy bite gets handled before porcelain goes on, not after.

For what shortens the life of a finished set, read how long veneers stay on your teeth.

Composite resin has a surface that holds pigment and wears with use. A 2024 randomized trial followed 28 patients who had gaps between their front teeth closed with composite or ceramic veneers. After two years, survival was similar for both. Staining at the edges and rough surfaces showed up more often on the composite veneers, which the authors say may mean more upkeep. Two years is also a short window next to the ten-year porcelain figure above.

So composite costs less up front and needs more upkeep. Dr. Tarek offers composite veneers as a lower-cost way to test drive a new smile when porcelain does not fit the budget right now. The trade-off is that they do not last as long as porcelain, and they stain more easily.

Composite also leaves your natural tooth largely as it was. The enamel removed for porcelain veneers does not grow back, so that choice is harder to undo. Our guide to the different types of veneers compares the materials in more detail.

What does a national average tell you about your veneers?

National averages sit near the top of the results when you search veneers cost. Even a careful average blends a single veneer with a set of ten, and a simple case with one that needed months of work first. So it tells you very little about your own teeth.

The number that matters is the one written after a dentist has looked at your enamel, your bite and the result you want.

What should a veneer quote include?

A complete veneer quote names each of these:

  • Records and design: photographs, a digital scan, a 3D X-ray when the case needs one, and a mock-up of the planned shape.
  • Preparation and temporaries: for porcelain, the visit where the teeth are shaped, and the temporaries you wear while the lab works.
  • The veneers themselves: how many teeth, and which material for each.
  • Work that comes first: whitening, gum treatment or aligners, if the plan needs them.
  • Protection afterwards: a night guard, if you grind.

Then ask three questions before you agree to anything:

  • What happens if a veneer chips or comes loose in the first year?
  • Is any part of this plan billed separately later?
  • If I choose composite now, is the design saved so porcelain can follow it later?

Some teeth are too broken down or too heavily filled for a veneer at all, and for those a crown is the stronger answer. Our post on choosing between a crown and a veneer explains how that call gets made.

Does insurance pay for veneers?

Ask your insurer in writing before treatment starts. Ask whether your plan treats veneers as cosmetic, and whether that changes when a veneer repairs a broken tooth rather than changing how it looks. Then ask what it will pay for each tooth on your treatment plan.

Westlake Dental Care files insurance, and guests who pay out of pocket are just as welcome here. If you would rather spread the cost, start at our financing options page. A lender's rates and terms belong to that lender and can change, so check them with the lender rather than taking a figure from us.

How do we plan and price veneers at Westlake?

Veneers are one of the cases the Smile Reveal is built for, and its two visits are complimentary. The first visit is records only: photographs and a digital scan. At the second you wear a mock-up of the design over your own teeth. It only adds material, so nothing is drilled, and it comes off before you leave. We photograph you wearing it and show you those photographs beside your before, along with the 3D plan.

Dr. Tarek names three things that move a fee: the position of the tooth, the number of surfaces involved, and the materials used. Your exam checks each of those, so the per-tooth fees above are confirmed for your own teeth.

That second visit is also where the written plan arrives, with the price on each part of it. The decision happens at that visit, with the plan in front of you, and no obligation comes attached to it. The plan and the presentation go home with you.

Book an appointment or call (703) 444-5108, and ask for a veneer quote written from your own teeth.
